BARWANA, Iraq- Lance Cpl. William J. Quimby Jr., a Marine from 1st Combat Engineers Battalion carries a reel of demolition cord across a damaged section of a bridge that connects the city of Barwana to Haditha. The bridge was originally damaged by an air strike, preventing automobiles to cross, but the engineers are tasked with using demolition to destroy enough of the bridge to prevent any crossing by foot. The Marines of Regimental Combat Team 2 conduct counter-insurgency operations with Iraqi Security Forces to isolate and neutralize anti-Iraqi forces, to support the continued development of Iraqi Security Forces, and to support Iraqi reconstruction and democratic elections in order to create a secure environment that enables Iraqi self-reliance and self-governance.
